News arrived in Rome that a Roman Jew living in Virginia wasn’t feeling well, the Jewish Community of Rome contacted the shliach in the city, Rabbi Levi Brashevitzky, director of Chabad of Tidewater, VA, who visited the person, but soon after he passed away.

Rabbi Brashevitzky, got in touch with the non-Jewish family of the deceased, who told them that they were already preparing for cremation but if the Rabbi would take care of all expenses involving burial they will agree to a Jewish burial.

Fortunately, Rabbi Brashevitzky was able to recruit many institutions to help, like the cemetery, the funeral home and also local philanthropists. In Rome, Rabbi Lazar, was in touch with the local family who also helped to cover part of the expenses. After a week of work, Binyamin ben Avraham was buried as a Jew.

At the Worldwide Convention of Shluchim in New York, both Chabad rabbis meet and immortalized the moment with a selfie.
